From Red Carpets to Royalty. 10 questions with Tiffany Smith

Tiffany Smith plays the role of Meghan Markle in Lifetime’s upcoming movie “Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal”. Having featured on hit TV shows such as Supernatural, Jane The Virgin, Behind Enemy Lines and films such as Annapurna Picture Vice, Tiffany is certainly one to watch in Hollywood right now. So we asked her all about her upcoming movie and how she went from red carpets to Royalty.

Congratulations on landing the role of Meghan in Becoming Royal. Is this the type of role you really enjoy?

Thank you. And yes! I learned a lot from the role, it was an awesome opportunity. And it was great because I could really dive into my multi-ethnic background and pull on my own experiences. Seeing it again through Harry and Meghan’s relationship really inspired so much growth in me.

What did you enjoy most about playing Meghan?

It was such a privilege to portray Meghan who’s doing so many great things for the world and sacrificing a big part of her privacy to do it – all for the man she loves. I felt so inspired afterwards, even though Meghan’s doing it on such a bigger scale, I just love feeling like I’m helping, even if it’s something small in my local community. I learned that no matter what situation you’re in, you’re going to have struggles, but there are still ways of doing things for others.

You have such a similar look to Meghan, have you ever been mistaken for her?

Yes, I hadn’t really noticed the similarity that much before. But looking back at the movie, it now seems kind of surreal.

Apart from looks, do you have anything else in common with Meghan Markle?

So many experiences in my life relate to Meghan’s. I went to school for Broadcast Journalism and she went to school for Public Relations. Like Meghan, I’m an American Actress. I guess even having to learn Royal etiquette – on a much smaller scale, is another similarity.

Like Meghan, you’re a keen supporter of charity, are you focussing on anything at the moment?

Right now, I’m focussing on Lonely Whale and a lot of ocean conservation projects – just doing little things like always carrying paper straws in my bag, they all add up! I also volunteer for various charities. Over Easter weekend I’m helping to feed the homeless here in L.A. I’m always keeping my eyes open for things that can help.

You’ve previously described yourself as a ‘geek girl’, so what makes you a geek girl?

You can be geeky about anything, if you’re into it enough! But I love playing video games, reading comic books and I’m a massive Star Wars fan, so I guess you could say these are geeky things! Also, I once spent three days gaming in my pyjamas!

What would be your dream role, is it Wonder Woman?

I love Wonder Woman! Of course, playing a DC superhero would be amazing, but to be honest, I just love to play roles that bring people joy.

You’re also well known for your interviewing and presenting – who’s given you your best interview?

I’ve had so many good ones, this is so hard! I loved interviewing Patty Jenkins, the Director of Wonder Woman. She gave such good advice and inspired me to stay true to who I am. Another good one would be Sean Astin who plays Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings. I was totally fine through the interview, but he came up to me afterwards and said “So I hear you’re a big Lord Of The Rings fan?” I wasn’t star struck, but I totally nerded out on him! He was cool of course, but it was so embarrassing!

Acting, charity, presenting, you’re a girl of many talents – is it true you also have a motorcycle license?

Yes, I do. My Grandma actually used to ride a motorbike, as did my Dad, so it’s always been in my blood. But I got really into watching Sons of Anarchy, so I went and got my motorbike license. But honestly, I just love trying new things.

And finally, what’s next for Tiffany Smith?

I’m working hard, auditioning and I’m just focussing on the movie coming out! It’s just exciting being an Actor – you never know what character is waiting around the corner for you. I actually have some comedy in my future and I’ve just been booked as a guest star on a show that I’m a big fan of, so hopefully I can share what the project is soon.
