What does Brexit mean for Retail?

Pure London has confirmed a panel discussion of four experts from three disciplines to analyse the political, economic and industry implications of the UK’s exit from the EU at the forthcoming edition of the event, 24 – 26 July 2016.

Content during the highly topical seminar will include recommended strategies for weathering the brewing economic storm, short term tactics for managing risk, plus the chance to learn more about the opportunities which could arise as a result of the momentous Brexit decision.
image002Keely Stocker, Editor at leading retail-trade magazine, Drapers, is confirmed to host the panel and has more than a decade of experience working in fashion trade, focusing on new innovations and developments in the world of multichannel fashion.

Global Insights and Strategy Director, Nick Everitt leads the content teams in Boston, London, Frankfurt and Mumbai for Planet Retail and is responsible for the creation of thought-provoking research and original forecasts of the retail landscape ahead. Everitt will be covering the effects of Brexit topics such as exchange rates and price, the role of British products in growth and the change in retail store formats.

Michael Clarke, Head of Content and Service Delivery at DeHavilland will be discussing Brexit from the standpoint of a background in politics. Clarke previously worked at the UN Department of Political Affairs and has extensive experience of political monitoring. He will cover key points including his stance on what is to be expected for the pound and stock market over the next 6-12 months, in line with to Teresa May’s new appointment as Prime Minister and the question of what political changes actually mean to the British economy.

Senior Editor, of Retail Intelligence at WGSN, Petah Marian, will discuss the implications for smaller retailers with prices already increasing by 5% from some suppliers due to poor hedging. Marian will also talk about managing the buying process and business risk, working through consumer confidence and how to get people to spend. Marian is an award-winning business journalist who has spent her career tracking global retail trends. Prior to joining WGSN, she was Editor of trade publication Menswear Insight and spent three years at Just Style, where she was News & Insights Editor.

Visitors are encouraged to attend the Brexit panel discussion which will take place in the Apex room at 11am on Monday 25 July. Pure London will take place from 24 – 26 July 2016 at Olympia London, where over 800 brands will showcase their Spring Summer 17 collections, 14 catwalks will take to the stage and over 25 key industry leaders will host seminars on the latest topics within fashion and retail.
